What is Stomped and how does the walking app work?+
Stomped is a free walking app that hides your map under fog. Everywhere you actually go gets uncovered permanently, so over time your map becomes a record of the places you've really been — with a live percentage showing how much of each neighborhood and city you've covered.
How do you unlock tiles in Stomped?+
You walk through them. The map is a grid of small hexagons, and stepping into one clears it for good. You can't unlock tiles by tapping the map or importing a route, so everything you've revealed is ground you actually covered.
Does Stomped track your location when the app is closed?+
If you lock your phone or switch apps mid-walk, Stomped keeps going. If you close it completely, tracking stops — unless you switch on Passive Tile Capture in Settings, which is off by default.
Can you use Stomped while running, biking, or driving?+
All of them work, you'll just clear ground faster than walking. Drives count by default, and if you'd rather they didn't, there's a setting that ignores anything moving at vehicle speed.
How accurate is Stomped's GPS and walking distance tracking?+
As accurate as your phone's GPS, which is all it needs — tiles are big enough that Stomped only has to know which one you're in. Worth knowing: it doesn't track distance or pace like a fitness app. The number that grows is how much area you've explored, not how many miles you've walked.
