Walk it.
Reveal it. Keep it.

Stomped is a fog-of-war walking tracker that turns every walk, run, and ride into a permanent map of everywhere you've actually explored. The whole map starts dark — move to clear it, hex by hex, and watch your real-world territory grow.

A map you earn with your own two feet

Not a route logger. Not a fitness scoreboard. Stomped is one ever-growing personal map of everywhere you've been — and the quiet pull to go fill in a little more.

Real movement, permanent map

Stomped only clears tiles where you've physically been on foot, by run, or by bike. Every hexagon you reveal stays revealed, building a map you actually earned step by step.

% stomped, everywhere you go

A live pill at the top of the map shows how much of your current neighborhood and city you've covered. It's the gentle nudge that turns a normal walk into “let me just finish this block.”

Explore together

Add friends and compare how much of any neighborhood or city each of you has unlocked. A friendly race to cover more ground, with only the counts shared, never your routes.

How it works

No setup, no routes to plan. Open the app, head outside, and start clearing the fog.

  1. 1

Open the map and find the fog

Your whole world starts hidden under a dark overlay. The only way to clear it is to go outside and move through it.

  2. 2

    Walk, run, or bike

As you travel, Stomped snaps your location to honeycomb tiles and lifts the fog from each one you pass through. A warm glow and a haptic tap mark every new tile you discover.

  3. 3

    Watch your city light up

Neighborhoods and cities fill in behind you, each with its own live percentage stomped. The more you move, the more of your personal map you reveal.

  4. 4

    Compare, celebrate, and keep going

Add friends to see who's covered more of a place, cross coverage milestones, and chase the streets you've never touched. Your map follows you to every device.

Everything in Stomped

Fog-of-war map

The whole planet starts dark. Every step you take clears the fog and lights up a hexagon, so the world fills in everywhere you've actually walked.

Live % stomped

A live coverage percentage for the neighborhood and city you're standing in, sitting right at the top of the map and ticking up as you go.

Friends and comparison

Add your friends and see who's covered more of the city. Compare any neighborhood and enjoy the bragging rights.

Milestone celebrations

Confetti when you hit the big moments. Cross 10%, reach 50%, or finish a whole neighborhood, and Stomped marks the occasion.

Neighborhood boundaries

Your stomped tiles snap into colored outlines that trace the real neighborhoods you've explored, so your map reads like an atlas you drew with your own two feet.

Revisit heat map

Walk a street often enough and it starts to glow. Your favorite routes warm from amber to red, turning your daily laps into a heat map of the paths you love.

Cross-device sync

New phone, same map. Sign in anywhere and your entire explored world rebuilds from the cloud, with nothing to re-walk.

Frequently asked questions

What is Stomped?+

Stomped is a free fog-of-war exploration app for iPhone. Your whole map starts hidden under fog, and as you physically walk, run, or bike, you permanently reveal the places you've actually been, turning real-world movement into a personal map of your explored world.

How does Stomped work?+

As you move, the app snaps your location to small hexagon tiles on the map and clears the fog over each one you pass through. Revealed tiles are permanent, so over days and weeks your blank map fills in to show everywhere you've explored, with a live “% stomped” for each neighborhood and city you move through.

Is Stomped free?+

Yes. Stomped is completely free to download and use on the App Store. You create a free account with an email and password so your map can be restored across devices.

Is there an Android version of Stomped?+

Stomped is currently available only on iPhone via the App Store (“Stomped: Unlock Your City”). There is no Android version yet.

Is my location data private? Where does my GPS data go?+

Stomped only stores and syncs coarse, anonymized hexagon tile IDs (roughly 47-meter cells), never your precise latitude and longitude, and never sends raw location to any third party.

What counts as “stomped”? Do I have to walk somewhere to reveal it?+

A tile is “stomped” only when you physically pass through it on foot, by run, or by bike, with a real-time GPS fix. You can't reveal places by tapping the map, importing routes, or driving fast through gaps, so your map reflects ground you've genuinely covered.

Can I add friends and compare who's explored more?+

Yes. You can add friends with an invite link and compare your coverage of each neighborhood and city, including who has stomped more of a given place. Friends only ever see how much of an area you've covered, never which specific tiles you unlocked or where you've actually been.

Does Stomped work in the background or when my phone is locked?+

While the app is open, it keeps revealing tiles after you lock the screen or switch apps. Fully closed-app background capture is an optional opt-in feature you can enable in Settings (it asks for “Always” location); it's off by default, so the standard experience only tracks while you're using the app.

Does Stomped work offline?+

Yes. Stomped is offline-first. Tiles you reveal are saved on your device immediately, so you can explore with no signal and your progress syncs to your account automatically the next time you're back online.

How is Stomped different from Strava?+

Strava is about workouts, segments, route maps, and athletic performance. Stomped isn't a fitness tracker for individual activities; it's a single ever-growing personal map of everywhere you've ever been, where the goal is revealing fog and increasing your coverage of real neighborhoods and cities over time.
